I’m still in high school and trying to understand all this. step dad is trying to keep my mom from getting money from our old house which she bought and made morgage payments on that we moved out of. He refuses to move or sell it yet is still there after a year and a half while also trying to get spousal support (hes a lazy sleazebag out of work). The lawyers are stalling after realizing there is not much money involved and constantly cancelling deposition dates, and billing rediculous things. How can we get them to move things along? Are Personal Injury Lawyers good or bad and what about common sense? Here is what I mean.
Eg. A man working in a factory sees that something has got stuck inside one of the machines, without thinking he crosses a thick red line on the floor and tries to free the thing thats stuck, in doing so he injures himself.
After he’s come back from hospital, he calls the Personal Injury Lawyers and sues the company for injuring him.

What do you think of this?
An example of this could happen, and to stop it the manager could have a rule saying if anyone breaks the safety rules, they not only risk their lives but also their job, eg. Break the rule, lose your job.

In cases where the defendant is ordered to pay resitution. Do they still have to pay it if the person dies? Would they be ordered to pay it to the estate of a person? What if the person is disabled or can’t get a job and still owes the person money?

I just received a letter from CSE saying they were gonna close my case for my non-cooperation. I called them and was very upset, for 8 years now I have given them everything I know, everytime I find something out. Now, they know where he is and they still haven’t done anything. I just don’t know what else to do. I understand they have a lot of cases but 8 years is a long time to wait for no help. He even went to court with CSE and he was sent home because I was not informed, therefore I wasn’t there. When I found out I went to the local office and they said it was not their responsibility to let the custodial parent know everything. I was my job to call. What else can i do????????

I am a freshmen criminal justice major. I plan on going to law school after i finish my undergraduate. I have herd from numerous people that the hardest part is getting in, and the first year, but if you make it through the first year then most likely you will graduate. As for now I want to do criminal cases, but I don’t really know what other types of lawyers there are.

There are attorneys which can fix your credit history from the three credit reporting companies but are there attorneys that can help erase items from your driving record? I have two accidents reported in my Texas driving history of which, only one am I responsible for. The other one is not my fault but is tagged as "At fault" which is affecting my auto insurance premium rates. I am hoping to find a lawyer that will help with my Family law problem that has been on going for 13 years now.
I live in Toronto now but for the last 11 years I was living in the USA. My EX wife has custody of our two boys one 18 the other 22.
The EX would not allow me access during these years and would not reduce my support amounts even when I was not working. She also would not talk to me during the 13 years or even NOW. Because of this neither of my sons talk to me thinking it was ME who walked away and left them when in fact the mother is the one that didn’t allow me to take them even when I was willing to fly them back and forth.
Coming back to Canada to care for my sick Father, getting a job here in toronto I get slapped with this HUGE amount of back support. This is due to the amounts I was sending directly to her while I was in the USA she didn’t tell the family support office here.

UNDERSTAND MOTHER’S get legal councel from the court order of support. They NEVER have to pay a cent.
Fathers on the other hand if something needs to be changed

*Problems with access PAY A LAWYER
I am not talking about how to deal with this within the USA I am in Canada.
It can take months to get infront of a judge to hear the case yet months of backpayments pile up.
Why can’t the system treat Fathers as well as the mothers?
Why can’t lawyers understand a payment lump sum of 1000′s of dollars is not always possible?

There are so many reasons for divorce lawyers to support gay marriage:

1.) No custody battles over children, because breeding requires opposite genders, and homos don’t breed intentionally.
2.) Homos have more disposable income, because they only spend money on themselves instead of the family they could be raising.
3.) Homos can not be converted into breeders, unless they are somehow tempted by evil forces.

I really like both careers. But when i think about becoming a lawyer and then possibly branching out into politics deep down inside it makes me feel good. The only turn off is the salary.

When i think about become a surgeon either Cardiovascular, E.R or Plastic surgeon i feel that i can make a good one, and i like the salary, but i dont get the same feeling i do if i think about becoming a lawyer.

*that will get the job done
*that mainly focus on the child best interest
*that is educated in dv,divorce,custody
*that is willing to agree to a payment plan or half of the retainer fee to get things start then the other half in the middle of the case

When looking at legal job postings, I see a lot of posts for paralegals. Some of the salaries are more than associate attorneys I know are making. Some are even more than senior lawyers I know make at small law firms, and definitely more than a lot of solo attorney I know.

Why is this? Are paralegals becoming more valuable than attorneys to some companies? Do you think this profession will continue to grow and evolve? Will they become more valuable and make more money?

Also I am talking "real" paralegal positions here, not legal assistant jobs or legal secretaries.

Like family members and stuff, or certain people I meet.

My ENTIRE practice is focused on a VERY NARROW class of Jones Act admiralty and cabotage claims. That is ALL I DO.

Aside from some vague crimlaw and criminal procedure stuff I had to learn for the bar exam, I know NOTHING of criminal law. I don’t even practice in the local courts. My work is done out of federal courts. I took one crimlaw course in law school, and that mostly dealt with constitutional matters.

If you hired me to bounce your DUII, you’d be screwed. I have no idea how to do that. I’d literally have to go on the internet and look up the basics.

Why do people assume that lawyer = criminal law expert? Why would that assumption even enter their minds? Do they assume that dentist = foot doctor? Do they assume that Spanish teacher = German teacher?

As a political matter, why are Americans so uneducated about this? Is it a failure of the schools?
That’s another thing – most lawyer jokes seem to be aimed at divorce or criminal lawyers. My work is more abstract. I deal with a lot of jurisdictional matters. Nobody has ever become enraged at me for something I did as a lawyer. My work doesn’t create that kind of conflict.
Law school doesn’t teach you how to deal with DUIIs. Not even close.
Crimlaw is not a related field to jurisdictional admiralty law.
